First Location Based Game for iPhone and Android Launches New Version: Parallel Kingdom - Age of Emergence
Madison, WI (PRWEB) November 25, 2009 -- PerBlue, Inc. has released a new title in its popular "Parallel Kingdom" line of location-based games. The game, Age of Emergence, is now available in the iTunes App Store and the Google Android Market. Age of Emergence can be played on all iPhones, iPod Touch, and Android phones. It is free to download and free to play.
The Age of Emergence adds a large number of features and significantly increases the depth of the whole game. Among the new features is the ability to found and expand cities with other players. There are four new types of dungeons players can explore and the locations of these dungeons are linked to actual features on the Google Map. Water on the Google Map is now also clearly distinguished and is played differently, adding another linkage between the game and real life. Also, all players are now ranked on a weekly basis in 20 different categories, and the top player in each category wins a trophy hat for their character.
In addition to new features, the previous game features have also been expanded by adding over a dozen new buildings, many new creatures to hunt, and over 30 new items to collect.
The developers of Parallel Kingdom will monetize the game using a micropayment-based business model. Players will be able to buy an in-game resource called Food using their iTunes account or Google Checkout. The functionality used by Parallel Kingdom for these in-app purchases was only recently added to Apple products in the 3.0 OS.
Justin Beck, the CEO of PerBlue says, "We believe the micropayment business model will give our players the best of both worlds. If they have money they want to spend on their character, then they are able to progress a little faster in the game and get some neat extras like different looking avatars. And if they really don't want to pay any money, they can still play."
There is a video trailer for the Age of Emergence which can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WGM37bWQzs
Game information: Parallel Kingdom is the first massively multi-player role playing game (MMORPG) to use the GPS capabilities of smartphones to incorporate a player's actual location into the game. Parallel Kingdom can be played on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and Google Android devices. On platforms like the iPhone and Google Android, Parallel Kingdom works by utilizing the device's GPS capabilities to pinpoint the player's location. On the iPod Touch, the game uses the player's WiFi location rather than GPS.
The first version, Parallel Kingdom - The Age of Exploration, was introduced October 31, 2008. The second version, Parallel Kingdom - The Age of Gathering was launched March 28, 2009 and had over 75,000 active player accounts when it ended November 9, 2009. The game and its popularity have improved dramatically with each new Age, and PerBlue expects the upcoming version to continue that trend.
Since its inception, Parallel Kingdom has always been free to download and play from Apple's App Store and the Android Marketplace. The Age of Emergence will continue this trend.
